 | Right from childhood, I have been interested in Puranas and Ithihasas. Thanks to my paternal grand mother (Baamma) , I almost spent 6-7 years listening to a different story from Puranas night after night. Even before Upanayanam, I learnt Medha Dakshina Moorthy Mantram. After Upanayanam, my interest in Mantras and Suktas grew , for I use to go as Bala-brahmachari to other's houses when they do special poojas. With time, I learnt Manthra Pushpam (Smartha). After I joined IITM, I had an opportunity to learn Purusha Suktam, Narayana Suktam, Sree Suktam, Durga Suktam. Then I learnt Namakam and Chamakam.(Thanks to Kanchi Mutt, for arranging this). After IITM, I moved to JHU. In Baltimore, I didnt have an opportunity to continue these. But once I moved to Seattle , everything was set for me. Dr. Deekshit Parasaram -former head-priest of our Community Temple (HTCC) - was teaching already. So I joined that group. He taught us Pancha Suktas ( this time it would be Purusha, Narayana, Sree, Bhoo, Nila), followed it with Rudram (Only for Smarthas) . Upon our request he taught us Taitreyam Shiksha Valli, Ananda Valli, Bruguvalli. Currently we are learing Mahanaryana Upanishad. |
